Built
circa 1884, this building has served many functions, including
the Court Square (Joseph E. Allen) Livery & Stables, the
county garage, and the office of the City-County Civil Defense
Director.
When the
livery and stables were located here, the second story was
built out as furnished rooms to let. Imagine the aromas.
The county
garage was located here from at least the 1930s to the 1950s.
In the
1960s, Ray Lancette (1916-1999), the City-County Civil Defense
Director had offices here (note the fallout shelter sign).
