A 1911 ad for the business of Scottish-born tailor and clothing merchant William Christie (1881-1975). Known as Bill the Nifty Tailor, Christie was in business in Helena from 1907 to 1955.

His shop in this ad was at 36 N. Main, in a building between the large Bailey and Granite blocks, on the west side of Main. That shop was destroyed in the big fire of 1928, but Bill reopened temporarily on West Sixth, eventually moving back to Main in the rebuilt Granite Building.

He sold out to Milton O. "Mickey" Anderson in 1955 when the F. W. Woolworth Co.'s store was remodeled and enlarged, taking over the entire ground floor of the Granite Building.

Christie remained active in his later years, especially at golf, until succumbing to heart failure at the age of 93.

Photo from the 1911 promotional booklet, "Scenic Helena", published by Helena photographer Samuel La Feits (1867- ?).
