This skating pond was constructed about by the local streetcar company, the Helena Light & Traction Co., jusr east of the Broadwater Hotel and Natatorium. The exact dates for its opening and closing are as yet undetermined.

Period newspaper mentions of skating near the Broadwater Hotel leave unclear if they refer to this pond or to artificial Lake Wilder, the area just north of the hotel flooded with water from Tenmile Creek. For a period beginning in 1890, the water inside the Broadwater Natatorium was left to freeze, providing indoor skating. Having three skating venues within a stone's throw of each other makes dating the pictured pond difficult.
