The Gaslight Cinema was built during Helena's Urban Renewal project era of the 1970s, when much of the core of the old city was demolished. It was built on the former site of 18-20 South Main Street (Last Chance Gulch).

Since late 2007, the building has housed The Base Camp, an outdoor sports outfitter.
