The bar
of the Grand Pacific Hotel (later the Drake Hotel), 1445 Helena
Avenue. F. W. Drake had extensive real estate holdings in
Helena around the turn of the 20th Century.
Drake's
18-year-old daughter Elizabeth was killed in an automobile
rollover west of St. Regis in 1920. He quit running the hotel
around 1922, leasing it to a Wm. Blinn for several years.
In 1925, Mr. & Mrs. Steve Tomchek leased the hotel from
Drake, who was then living in Los Angeles.
The hotel
was severely damaged by the 1935 earthquakes, and was condemned.
It's unclear from the research materials available to me if
it was completely razed or just augmented.
