Water Street, which paralled West Main St. south of State St., was eliminated in the 1970s by the urban renewal projects.
Merritt & Co. was in business from 1883 to 1912. David's health began to deteriorate in 1911, and he died in June of 1912. He is buried at Forestvale Cemetery.
The Merritt & Co. name ended in late 1912. The business was thereafter known as the Helena Bottling Works. That name appeared in local newspaper ads until 1962, concurrent with the name Helena Bottling Company, a totally different concern which may have been trading on the Bottling Works name. |
